TEAM NEWS What a season we had, after losing our opening three games the boys have gone from strength to strength. They have gelled into a fantastic team who work together whatever the situation. Wins have followed each week with only Taverham (unbeaten in the league) getting the better of us. Despite going behind on occasions we have always kept our heads, focus and clawed our way back. The boys have developed their own ball skills and learnt team tactics well. Goals have come from many players including Charlie, Sam, Kieran, Danny, Harry and Spencer. The team have also kept clean sheets in games with the help of Keeper Ali and defenders Joe, Tom, Benji, Zac and HP. We ended the season as the form team in the league finishing 3rd which was just a single point from 2nd place and automatic promotion. Keep going lads and well done, promotion is the aim next year. The team started training in August to get ready for a promotional push this season. Any boy’s looking for a team please contact to discuss opportunities. Training – Tuesdays 5.30 – 6.30 @ Thorpe High School 3G pitch Matches – Sunday @ Sprowston Sports and Social Club, Blue Boar Lane |

Sprowston Lads 1 - 2 Norman Wanderers 2nd October. Back on our home ground in a blistering heat, quickly into our stride of pushing forward in numbers and making several attempts on gaol, Sam, Charlie and Harry all having about 3 chances each to open the scoring! the hard ground an the speed of the ball catching them out. It was this that allowed us to concede a goal fairly early on after much dominance and possession. Norman feed the over the top down the right wing and Zak struggled to cope with the pace of their winger and was able to score this being their only attempt on goal in the first half. The back four seemed a bit unsettled and the heat wasn't doing any favours. Spencer kept Norman busy on the left wing whilst Sam kept on teasing their defence on the right. Harry seemed to be struggling in the heat but was able to pull off some fantastic moves, sadly we weren't able to make the most of them, so the first half ended with Norman in the lead. within minutes of the second half starting Spencer was on his way, a brilliant solo effort from just inside Norman's half, evading 3 or four players and thumping home a screamer of a left footed shot. Awesome! 1 - 1 now so everything to play for, the boys were lifted and Sam Charlie Brad Harry Benj Kieran and Tyler all having attempts on goal but to no avail, until HP smashed the ball against the woodwork and followed up to make it 2 -1, or so we thought! the Norman Lino had other ideas saying he was off side in fact it being another player who was nowhere near the field of play, but hey ho! It still didn't stop the boys from pressing on. Tyler proving some long long throw ins which were causing havoc with Norman. Again they weren't being finished off in the back of the net. Joe was having an outstanding day at the back and seemed to be relishing the fact he was winning virtually every ball. Ali again pulling off some great stops. With it being so hot boys were being subbed pretty frequently and were going back on in different positions and in the main were doing very well. After much pressure to the Norman goal the boys just had a 30 second lapse of concentration, not one or two but all eleven, it was bizarre! Norman literally walked the ball into the net, it was horrific! after all the great work all the boys had put in it was if a spell had been cast over them. it was a frantic few minutes to pull the score back and it wasn't without trying. Sam Benj Charlie Brad and Josh all coming alarmingly close. Sadly not enough time to get level. So after where we dominated the most of the game we couldn't get the ball in the net like other weeks. Non the less it was a great game to watch and credit goes out to all the boys from both teams in trying conditions. Well done and a big thank you to John for refereeing the game and for all the parents who attended.
Drayton Youth 0 - 7 Sprowston Lads 25th September, we saw the boys head out to Drayton for their first away of the season. Drayton were on the back of a win and so were our boys, something to prove between the teams. The game got under way with Charlie and Sam making very quick attempts on goal, this was proving to be how the game was to go on. We dominated the midfield and were pushing forward all the time with Benj and Tyler also joining in the attack. Harry and HP weren't afraid of having a go at goal either. it started with Charlie getting the first goal from great work in the midfield with Harry feeding Charlie. Danny was working so well down the left wing he managed to get a goal and was quickly followed by another from Charlie, again running on from balls fed from the midfield. Tyler responded with a blinder of a shot nearly burying the keeper in the back of the net! kieran then followed with great work on the left cutting in onto his right foot and let loose a terrific shot and scoring. Half time and it's Drayton 0 The Lads 5. Second half started with a flurry of attempts on gaol but nothing getting in the net. Zak and Tom were doing really on holding up their challenges and not many get past them, great effort from those two. Similarly with Joe and Kieran holding the back solid. It wasn't long before HP got him self on the score sheet working really well with Danny down the left wing. Tyler putting in some fantastic corners but somehow we weren't able to stick the ball in the net. Harry and Brad were having a terrific time in the centre of the park and pushing on towards the goal which seemed to elude the pair of them. Benj was coming close on several attempts but there seemed to be a force field in front of Drayton's goal! Tyler eventually got his second goal of the game from another screamer of a shot from outside the 18 yard box. Tyler and Charlie were now chasing down their chance of a hat trick! saddly it never happened. A great boost for the boys as every single boy put their heart and soul into that game and were rewarded with a 7 nil win. Giving Ali a clean sheet which was deserved as he made several great saves. Well Done guys. Thanks to Pete who refereed the game and for Drayton for hosting us. |
